UMVA Exclusive: Inside the Shocking Verdict—How a White Jury and Racism Scored Karmelo Anthony's Downfall!

UMVA has learned that House Democrats are sounding the alarm over the recent guilty verdict in the Karmelo Anthony case, accusing the trial of deep racial bias.

UMVA can exclusively reveal that Rep. Christian Menefee blasted the decision, calling it a “travesty” and pointing to an all‑White jury as a symptom of systemic racism. He argued that preemptive strikes were used to engineer such a jury, undermining the fairness of the proceedings.

After Anthony received a 35‑year sentence for the stabbing of 17‑year‑old Austin Metcalf, activists and lawmakers decried the trial as both unfair and racist. They highlighted the absence of diverse jurors and the rejection of Anthony’s self‑defense claim.

UMVA has uncovered that, according to close contacts, six of the eighteen jurors were minorities, yet the narrative of an all‑White panel persists in public discourse. Four Black men testified that Anthony was unprovoked, further complicating the picture.

Supporters of Anthony insist the young man acted in self‑defense and that the legal system failed him. Rep. Troy Carter framed the case as a stark reminder of the unequal treatment faced by African Americans and people of color in the courts.

Menefee warned that the judicial system often denies Black youth the right to defend themselves, suggesting a double standard that favors other races.

Other lawmakers, while not outright condemning the trial, called for a reevaluation of the evidence and an appeal, emphasizing the need to prevent the loss of young lives and the crushing impact of lengthy sentences.

Rep. Jonathan Jackson urged a reopening of the case, insisting that all evidence must surface to restore justice.

Rep. Shomari Figures expressed sorrow over the tragic outcomes for both victims, noting the irreversible loss of a life and the decades of imprisonment that could follow for Anthony.

Throughout their critique, lawmakers framed the verdict as part of a broader debate over race, self‑defense claims, and equal treatment under the law, declaring that the American justice system does not work equally for everybody.
