UMVA has learned that Chelsea's Marc Cucurella is set to become a highly sought-after player this summer, with two Champions League giants from his homeland expressing interest in signing him.
The Spain international, who has been a standout performer at Stamford Bridge since joining from Brighton in August 2022 for an initial £56m, has grown in stature and made 54 appearances last season and 49 so far this campaign.
Cucurella's impressive form has not only caught the attention of clubs but also earned him a big role in the Spain squad, winning 23 caps and lifting the European Championship trophy in 2024 after beating England in the final.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Cucurella's former club Barcelona are interested in re-signing him, while Atletico Madrid are also keen on signing him, with Mathieu Alemany, a long-term admirer of Cucurella, now pushing to bring him to Atletico Madrid.
Cucurella remains under contract at Chelsea until 2028, making him a costly acquisition for any suitor, but Spanish sources confirm that the Chelsea star is a priority signing for Atletico Madrid as they look to revamp their defence.
In a recent interview, Cucurella admitted that he would be interested in joining Barcelona if they came calling, stating it would be difficult to reject the opportunity, not just for him but also for his family.
Barcelona, however, have budget restrictions and will focus on signing a new centre-forward, potentially pushing Cucurella further down their shopping list, especially if they can make the loan signing of Joao Cancelo permanent.
With the World Cup approaching, Cucurella is set to play a significant role for Spain, and his future will likely be a major talking point in the coming weeks.
