UMVA has learned that a massive disaster response effort has been launched in the wake of a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck General Santos City and Sarangani province, displacing thousands of people.
The Bangsamoro government and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity have joined forces to initiate relief operations, dispatching teams to assess damage and provide humanitarian aid to affected areas. A Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis Team has been sent to the region to identify areas of need and provide support.
South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. expressed his gratitude for the swift action, saying that the inter-agency and multi-sector Regional Peace and Order Council 12 appreciates the initiative. He also praised Army units deployed to the area for their role in the relief efforts.
The relief efforts, led by the Bangsamoro government, involve multiple agencies and offices, including the Ministry of Local Government-BARMM and the office of Bangsamoro Local Government Minister Jordan S. Bayam. The initial delivery of relief supplies to displaced residents in Sarangani was facilitated by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the response effort is focused on providing critical support to those affected by the earthquake, with a particular emphasis on vulnerable populations, including former communist insurgents and violent religious extremists who have been forced to relocate to evacuation sites.
The disaster response operations aim to mitigate the adverse effects of the earthquake on affected communities, with a focus on providing humanitarian aid and support to those in need. The effort is a testament to the collaborative spirit of various agencies and offices working together to address the crisis.
