President Trump announced Monday that Keith E. Sonderling has been nominated to serve as Secretary of Labor.
Sonderling, currently Acting Secretary of Labor, previously held the positions of Deputy Secretary and Chief Operating Officer within the department.
In the prior administration, he led the Wage and Hour Division as Acting and Deputy Administrator, overseeing enforcement of labor standards nationwide.
The administration cited his track record of delivering results for American workers and expressed confidence in his capacity to guide the department.
The nomination follows the resignation of Labor Secretary Lori Chavez‑DeRemer, who stepped down amid an investigation involving her husband.
Chavez‑DeRemer was the third Cabinet official to leave during the second term, prompting Sonderling’s appointment as Acting Secretary before his formal nomination.
The investigation centered on allegations of sexual misconduct against Shawn DeRemer, the former secretary’s spouse.
