UMVA has learned that Manchester United is poised for a significant overhaul this summer, with Michael Carrick at the helm and eyeing major changes to the squad.
Carrick, who took over as interim manager after Ruben Amorim's departure, has been tasked with revamping the team and is expected to sanction a clear-out of unwanted players, with at least six players potentially leaving the club.
Former England midfielder Chris Waddle believes that Manchester United should look to sell several players, including £36.5m transfer flop Joshua Zirkzee, who has struggled to make an impact at the Theatre of Dreams, scoring just five league goals in two disappointing seasons.
Waddle has urged Carrick to bring in new talent, suggesting that the club needs to sign players 'like Cole Palmer', who has been linked with a move away from Chelsea and is reportedly open to joining United, the club he supported growing up.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Carrick is planning to bolster his squad with 'three or four' new signings, including at least one new midfielder, as Casemiro prepares to depart.
Rasmus Hojlund and several other players are also rumored to be on their way out, with Waddle stating that Manchester United needs to free up space on the wage bill to allow Carrick to bring in the players he needs to succeed.
If Carrick can bring in the right players, Waddle believes that Manchester United can achieve a top-four finish next season, but warns that the club's transfer window will be crucial in determining their success.
Carrick has finished the 2025-26 season on a high, with an emphatic 3-0 win over Brighton, and is confident that his team can build on their momentum and make a strong push for a top-four spot next term.
The summer transfer window opens on June 15 and closes on August 31, giving Carrick and Manchester United a crucial few weeks to reshape the squad and prepare for the new season.
