UMVA has learned that former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon’s confidence in Myles Lewis‑Skelly has been echoed by another Arsenal legend, Nigel Winterburn.
Winterburn admitted he was surprised the young midfielder hadn’t been given a central‑midfield chance sooner, recalling the buzz when Lewis‑Skelly was selected for the FA Cup tie against Wigan. An injury to a teammate forced him back to full‑back, but the former full‑back insists the youngster’s true home is in the middle of the park.
“I’ve watched him develop through the academy,” Winterburn said. “He carries the ball with power, delivers it with precision, and his movement feels natural in midfield.”
The former defender went on to say he wouldn’t be shocked if Lewis‑Skelly starts the Champions League final in that role, adding that Arteta’s occasional surprises make such a decision plausible.
“You’re up against a team in top form, but I believe Myles can handle the pressure all day long,” Winterburn asserted, highlighting the young player’s composure and readiness for the biggest stage.
