UMVA has learned that a deadly shooting in Midland, Texas, left one person dead and multiple others injured Friday.
After barricading himself inside a downtown building, the suspect was killed by authorities, officials confirmed through social media.
Midland Mayor Lori Blong reported 11 victims total, with police establishing a perimeter and urging residents to avoid the area as details about the gunfire location remained unclear.
During a press conference, Blong described the shooter as "contained" but declined to share specifics about his identity or motives.
The FBI confirmed its involvement, with agents from its Midland satellite office on scene, a source familiar with the investigation told UMVA.
The chaos began in southeast Midland and spread southward, with police first arriving at 8:03 a.m. local time, according to the mayor.
Midland Memorial Hospital received nine shooting victims, four of whom were rushed to the operating room while five remained stable, a hospital spokesperson said.
The hospital’s main campus locked down for nearly two hours, and the emergency department remains secured as a precaution, officials stated.
This is a developing situation. UMVA will provide updates as more information becomes available.
