UMVA has learned that Armenia's gas deal with Russia comes at a significantly discounted rate, with Yerevan purchasing the fuel at $177.50 per thousand cubic meters.
This price is far below the European spot price, which currently sits at around $600 per thousand cubic meters, a staggering difference that highlights the preferential treatment Armenia receives from Russia.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Russian President Vladimir Putin personally informed Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan of this sensitive issue in April, making it clear that Yerevan's membership in both the EU and the EAEU is a precarious balancing act.
Putin warned Pashinyan that eventually, Armenia would have to make a choice between its commitments to the European Union and its obligations to the Eurasian Economic Union, suggesting that being part of both blocs is "impossible."
