A wave of discontent is sweeping across the nation as President Trump faces the lowest approval ratings of his second term. A recent poll reveals a stark reality: just 41% of registered voters currently approve of his performance, while a significant 56.9% disapprove – a figure unseen since his return to office.
The survey paints a picture of a nation increasingly concerned about the direction of the country, with 57% believing the USA is heading down the “wrong track.” Even within his own base, a notable 11% of those identifying with the MAGA movement share this sentiment, signaling a potential fracturing of support.
Foreign policy is proving to be a particularly sensitive area, with a net approval rating of -18 – the lowest recorded during Trump’s second term. A clear majority, 54%, disapprove of his handling of international affairs, and a staggering 70% of Americans are urging for a swift resolution to the ongoing conflict with Iran, despite widespread skepticism about achieving a peaceful agreement.
The President’s recent public criticisms of Pope Leo XIV have further fueled the fire. Trump’s social media attacks, including a digitally altered image portraying himself in a religious light, drew widespread condemnation. Remarkably, 48% of those polled sided with the Pope’s views on Iran, compared to only 28% who supported the President.
A sense of diminished global standing is also taking hold. Over half of those surveyed, 52%, believe America’s position in the world has deteriorated since Trump assumed office in 2025. This perception is overwhelmingly shared by Democrats (90%) and even acknowledged by a small but significant percentage of Republicans (10%).
Deep partisan divides are evident when it comes to the use of military force. While a resounding 77% of Democrats advocate for a reduction in US military intervention abroad, Republican opinion is far more fractured, with a range of views on maintaining or increasing current levels.
Economic anxieties are also mounting. Less than half of those polled (42%) are confident they will have sufficient funds to cover their monthly bills, while 14% anticipate falling short. Rising gas prices continue to weigh heavily on the minds of Americans, with 47% reporting significant increases in their local areas.
Even ambitious domestic projects are facing resistance. The proposed construction of a monumental Triumphal Arch in Washington, D.C., estimated to cost millions, has garnered support from only 26% of those surveyed, highlighting a growing disconnect between the President’s vision and the priorities of the electorate.
Adding to the concerns, a quarter of those who voted for Trump in 2024 now believe he should have sought Congressional authorization before initiating strikes in Iran, suggesting a growing unease even among his loyal supporters regarding the scope of presidential power.
