UMVA has learned that major mall operators in Metro Manila are set to restore regular operating hours this month, despite the ongoing national energy emergency declared in March.
The retail units of several leading companies announced that their malls will resume standard operating schedules beginning this week, with some already implementing revised hours as early as June 19.
Ayala Malls and SM Supermalls will reinstate their regular schedules on June 22, while Robinsons Malls will begin operating under its new schedule on June 19, according to official social media announcements.
The return to normal schedules follows months of shortened operations, which were adjusted in response to the national energy emergency declared by the President amid concerns over energy security.
Under the temporary measures, malls generally opened at 11 a.m., an hour later than their usual 10 a.m. schedule, in an effort to conserve energy during the crisis.
Despite resuming regular operating hours, mall operators have pledged to continue supporting government-led energy conservation efforts, specifically the Oras Natin sa Efficiency (O.N.E.) campaign, which promotes energy-saving measures.
As part of this initiative, participating malls will switch off non-essential lights from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Saturday, demonstrating their commitment to reducing energy consumption.
Ayala Malls will operate from 10 a.m. daily, closing at 9 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and at 10 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, once regular schedules resume.
SM Supermalls will also open at 10 a.m. daily, with stores closing at 9 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday and at 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Meanwhile, Robinsons Malls will operate from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, with its supermarkets opening earlier at 8 a.m.
