Nueva Vizcaya has intensified its social welfare initiatives by distributing P6.135 million in cash assistance to 1,227 solo parents. This move is part of the province's efforts to support vulnerable families. The beneficiaries, who are from various towns, received P5,000 each under the Solo Parents' Upliftment Program for Progress, Opportunities, Resources and Training.

The latest payout brings the total number of solo parents assisted to 2,284, with cash aid exceeding P11.4 million. The provincial government has reaffirmed its commitment to alleviating the burden of solo parents, who bear the responsibility of raising and providing for their children alone. This commitment was underscored by the governor during the distribution of assistance, which was also attended by the vice-governor and members of the provincial council.

Nueva Vizcaya is also preparing to launch a province-wide program to provide subsidized rice to poor and vulnerable families. The initiative, dubbed "The People's P20 Rice Project," aims to bring P20-per-kilo rice directly to barangays through mobile retail outlets. Priority beneficiaries include senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and households affected by calamities, among others.

The program has been allocated more than P13 million, including a significant subsidy from the provincial government and a contribution from a private partner. The project is designed to provide immediate relief to families struggling with rising food prices and economic hardships. Proceeds from rice sales will be used to replenish stocks and sustain the program's expansion across the province, ensuring its long-term viability and impact.
