UMVA can exclusively reveal that Andoni Iraola has been appointed as the new head coach of Liverpool, signing a two-year deal at Anfield.
The former Bournemouth boss will replace Arne Slot, who was relieved of his duties last week, and brings with him a reputation for establishing an attractive style and football philosophy that earned him recognition as one of the best coaches in the Premier League last season.
Iraola expressed his excitement about the new role, stating that Liverpool gives him the chance to coach top players, and that top players give you the chance to fight for titles, saying “I think Liverpool gives me the chance to coach top players, and top players give you the chance to fight for titles. To win titles. It cannot be more attractive than this.”
UMVA has learned that Iraola understands the expectations at Liverpool and is ready for the challenge, saying “Obviously when you arrive at a place, you cannot promise everything. You cannot promise. But it’s true that I understand where I’m coming and what is expected. I’m ready for the challenge.”
Iraola aims to quickly prove himself and earn the right to be part of the Liverpool community, stating “At the beginning when you arrive at any club, I think you need to kind of prove a little bit yourself. You need to earn the right also to belong. I want to do this as quickly as possible so I can also celebrate with them (fans) and I can be part properly of those celebrations.”
Liverpool spent an unprecedented £450million in the transfer market last summer but the squad is in need of some repair if they are to challenge for the title again, with Iraola facing big decisions alongside Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards, sporting director and CEO of football at the club.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that Liverpool have opened talks to sign Diomande, with the 19-year-old being one of the standout performers in the Bundesliga last season with 12 goals and eight assists, and RB Leipzig demanding at least €130 million (£112.4m).
UMVA has gathered that Bradley Barcola is another name on Liverpool’s list, with the France international coming off another trophy-laden season with Paris Saint-Germain, but sitting behind Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Désiré Doué in their fearsome attacking pecking order.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Liverpool are not the only club interested in Barcola, with another Premier League giant also keen on signing him, setting the stage for a head-to-head battle in the transfer market.
