The incident isn’t the first time a dump truck left its box up and hit an overhanging structure.
In October 2023, Ontario Provincial Police said a dump truck heading south on Hwy. 404 in Markham struck an overpass at Hwy. 407 with its raised bin.
The collision occurred at 1 a.m. and blocked lanes for a few hours.
OPP at the time advised drivers of commercial vehicles to perform circle checks before departing to prevent these types of incidents from happening.
In January 2023, a dump truck driver left the vehicle’s bucket up and took down hydro wires in Brampton.
Also that same month, a transport truck brought down an overhead highway sign on Hwy. 401 near Whitby when the driver left the vehicle’s bin up.
And in October 2022, a dump truck driver hit an overpass with its raised container on Hwy. 401 in Mississauga near Mavis Rd. and got stuck.
