Friends thought northern Ontario man's lottery win was AI
James Steeves, of Thunder Bay, won $90,000 with a The 90s Instant ticket.

A Thunder Bay man announced his lottery win on Facebook, but his pals thought they were being duped by artificial intelligence.

James Steeves won $90,000 playing The 90s Instant lottery — a ticket he said he initially had no intention of buying.

While playing scratch tickets is part of his weekly routine, the 54-year-old was going to skip it this time but saw that there was only one The 90s ticket left — so he decided to buy it.

“I was playing my ticket at home while drinking my coffee, and was hoping to win $90,” the 54-year-old recalled.

“I didn’t expect to win something this big.”

Steeves intends to invest his winnings and save for his future retirement.

He shared the news on social media but didn’t get much of a response — until he clarified it was indeed true.

“I posted the news on Facebook to share with my family, friends and coworkers, and everyone thought it was AI,” Steeves recalled to the OLG prize office with a laugh.
