Five from Hamilton charged, guns and drugs seized in Grimsby shooting investigation
Niagara Regional Police announced the arrest of five individuals from Hamilton and the seizure of firearms, drugs and Canadian cash following a shooting in Grimsby last month.

Five individuals from Hamilton are in custody facing 78 gun and drug charges following an investigation into a Grimsby shooting that injured one person last month.


Niagara Regional Police say three of the people arrested are also accused of disobeying court orders.


Police announced the arrests Friday evening, weeks after Niagara detectives took over the investigation from Hamilton Police.


Police said officers and medics responded on the evening of Sept. 24 to reports of a shooting on South Service Rd. near Kelson Rd. – near the Grimsby and Stoney Creek border.


A male victim was located with injuries and transported to a trauma centre in serious but not life-threatening condition, cops said at the time.

Police said several judicial authorizations were granted in the weeks that followed the shooting, which investigators believed the victim was targeted.


On Friday, Niagara Regional Police’s Emergency Task Unit assisted with the execution of a search warrant at a Clyde St. address in the Wentworth St. N. and Cannon St. E. area of Hamilton.


During the search, cops seized a shotgun, 9 mm handgun, MP5 automatic gun, a loaded extended magazine, 2 oz of suspected fentanyl, 1 oz of suspected crack cocaine, and $1,850 in Canadian cash.

Jawad Rabbani, 25, and Shamaree Salmon, 31, are both charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, pointing a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent to wound, endanger life or prevent arrest, careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, three counts of possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without holding a licence, three counts of possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm knowingly not holding a licence, three counts of careless storage of a firearm, weapon or prohibited device, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, and fentanyl possession for the purpose of trafficking.


Samantha McPhee, 27, Hannah Baillie, 28, and Shakem Keane-Dawes, 20, are each charged with three counts of possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without holding a licence, three counts of possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm knowingly not holding a licence, three counts of careless storage of a firearm, weapon or prohibited device, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and fentanyl possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Rabbani was also charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order.


Salmon is also accused of disguise with intent, possession of a firearm, weapon, or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, and failing to comply with a probation order.


Keane-Dawes was also charged with failing to comply with a release order.
