At least 27 people killed in devastating pub fire

A massive fire erupted at a Bangkok pub just before midnight on Monday, claiming at least 27 lives and injuring several others as patrons struggled to escape the smoke-filled venue.

Flames engulfed the Na Ladprao pub in the northern part of Thailand’s capital, with first responders capturing video showing thick black smoke billowing into the sky and individuals fleeing the scene.

Firefighters contained the blaze within approximately 30 minutes, while Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed the death toll and stated that multiple injured victims were transported to a hospital for treatment.

The prime minister also revealed that a musician performing at the venue reported seeing smoke from a circuit breaker near the stage moments before a power outage, followed by an explosion that spread thick smoke throughout the establishment.

Many victims were found trapped in restrooms at the back of the pub, according to officials. Investigators have launched an inquiry into the cause of the fire.

Photos from the aftermath revealed extensive damage inside the building, including charred remains and debris scattered across the interior.

Nightlife fires have previously claimed lives in Thailand. In 2022, a fire at a music pub in eastern Thailand killed 14 people.
