‘Unpleasant odor’ from passenger’s food forces plane to turn around

A plane was forced to divert mid-flight due to an “unpleasant odor” coming from a passenger.


Delta Air Lines flight 2311 was headed to Salt Lake City on Saturday when the pilot turned the plane around to return to Los Angeles,KTVXreported.


There were 189 passengers on board, along with the aircraft’s two pilots and four flight attendants.


“As nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people, our crew followed standard procedures to safely return to Los Angeles after an unpleasant odor was detected onboard,” a Delta spokesperson told theToronto Sunin a statement.


The spokesperson added an apology to flyers for “the delay in their travels.”


The airline confirmed that the smell was not from the in-flight food and drinks but, rather, from spoiled food brought on board by a traveller.

Delta allows passengers to bring their own food, as long as it complies with TSA security screening rules, according to the airline’s website.


The plane landed safely back at LAX, and all 189 passengers disembarked from the plane without incident and were put on another aircraft to Utah.
