Most of the time I’m happy with Windows Light mode for my Windows look, but when it gets dark the glaring brightness of Light mode can be a little too much for my eyes. That’s when I like to switch to Windows Dark mode.
Apart from being easier on the eyes in low light conditions, Windows Dark mode conserves my OLED laptop’s battery, and it just plain looks slick with the right apps running in the background. Here’s how to turn it on.
What to do:
- From the Start menu navigate toSettings>Personalization>Colors.
- Now next to “Choose your mode” selectDark.
- You can also chooseCustom. If you choose this mode, you’ll have the option to choose one default Windows mode and a different default app mode.
- You can also change the “Accent colors” and turn on “Transparency effects” so feel free to experiment with a look you like.

Tip:If you want more of a warming effect in low light conditions you can also activate “Schedule night light” in your PC’s display settings.
Just go toSettings>System>Display>Night lightand toggle the switch on next to“Schedule night light”. Then just choose a time when you want the night light to be activated.
