The lanes of the Gardiner Expressway are wide open.

The hitch? They’re closed to traffic, of course.

Toronto roads officials say the closure — from Spadina Ave. to Hwy. 427 — is required to allow crews to conduct maintenance and other work which will allow the city to open all six lanes of the expressway.

The city says three westbound lanes and two eastbound lanes are expected to reopen to commuters at around 7 a.m. Monday.

This is all a part of a plan to fully open the Gardiner — from Dufferin St. to Strachan Ave. — 18 months ahead of the original construction schedule.
