A new tell-all book has revealed that former President Barack Obama was outraged after Rep. Nancy Pelosi quickly endorsed Kamala Harris after Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential election race.
An excerpt obtained by theDaily Mailof ABC News’ Jonathan Karl’s upcoming book “Retribution,” reveals Obama and Pelosi previously had an understanding with one another that Kamala Harris should not be handed the nomination but rather she should be challenged by other Democratic presidential candidates.
Karl wrote that a source revealed to him that Michelle and Barack Obama were both unhappy about Pelosi’s hasty move to endorse the then-Vice President.
The Chief White House correspondent for ABC News wrote, “This person summed up Obama’s message to Pelosi as, essentially, ‘What the f*ck did you just do?’”

In his new book Retribution, ABC News’s Jonathan Karl provided new details on what had been widely known – that Obama didn’t want a quick coronation of Harris, but rather ‘a process’ to determine who would become the Democratic nominee.
Obama called Pelosi shortly after her endorsement of Harris became public. ‘The Obamas were not happy,’ a Pelosi confidant told Karl. ‘This person summed up Obama’s message to Pelosi as, essentially, “What the f*** did you just do?”‘
Pelosi told the former Democratic president: ‘That train has left the station.’
The endorsement had come as a surprise to Obama because he and Pelosi had been in ‘regular communication’ as it appeared then 81-year-old Biden was nearing the decision to drop out of the race, and ‘they agreed Harris should not simply be handed the nomination unchallenged,’ Karl wrote.
‘Therefore, Obama and Pelosi – arguably the two most influential figures in the Democratic Party – had privately agreed to abstain from making any endorsements,’ the longtime ABC News reporter said.
Shortly after Biden dropped out of the race both Michelle and Barack Obama refused to quickly endorse Kamala Harris.
Obama in a post on Medium after praising Biden’s time in office instead wrote, “I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges.”
However, after every notable democrat threw their weight behind Harris, Obama saw the writing in the sand and gave his endorsement to Harris and Michelle later followed.
