A quiet alarm is spreading as Halloween approaches – a candy recall has been issued, prompting a careful check of treat stashes. The concern centers around potential, undeclared allergens that could pose a serious risk to those with sensitivities.
Zingerman’s Candy Manufactory, based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, initiated the recall last Friday, focusing on two popular full-size bars: Zingerman’s Peanut Butter Crush and Zingerman’s Ca$hew Cow. Both are identified by Lot#174250, a crucial detail for consumers to check.

Specifically, the Peanut Butter Crush bars may contain hidden cashews, while the Ca$hew Cow bars could harbor undeclared peanuts. This poses a significant danger to individuals with severe nut allergies, potentially triggering a life-threatening reaction.
The FDA has confirmed the products were distributed to retailers in Michigan and New York, reaching consumers through standard retail channels. The agency emphasized the seriousness of the situation, highlighting the potential for severe allergic reactions.
These bars come in distinctive packaging: the Peanut Butter Crush in yellow and purple 2oz boxes, and the Ca$hew Cow in light blue and yellow 2oz boxes. Lot#174250 is clearly marked on each.
Fortunately, as of now, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled candy. This offers a measure of relief, but doesn’t diminish the importance of vigilance.
The recall stemmed from a breakdown in the manufacturing and packaging processes. The FDA reports that the issue has been identified and corrective steps have been implemented to prevent recurrence.
Consumers who have purchased either the Zingerman’s Peanut Butter Crush or Ca$hew Cow bars with Lot#174250 are urged to immediately return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.
