MSI CLAW UNLEASHED: Xbox Gaming Just Got a HUGE Upgrade!

MSI CLAW UNLEASHED: Xbox Gaming Just Got a HUGE Upgrade!

The gaming handheld landscape is shifting dramatically. Just weeks after the Asus ROG Ally introduced a streamlined, Xbox-inspired interface for Windows-based gaming, Microsoft is expanding its reach beyond a single device.

This intuitive user experience, initially exclusive to the Ally, is now appearing on MSI Claw handhelds. The move signals a broader strategy from Microsoft to optimize Windows for portable PC gaming, and it’s happening faster than many anticipated.

The interface, now referred to internally as “Fullscreen Experience” (FSE), is available to MSI Claw users enrolled in the Windows Insider Program – specifically those on the Dev or Beta Channels with the KB5067115 build. Activation requires a quick dive into the Windows Settings menu.

MSI offers a range of Claw models, including the original A1M powered by Intel, and the newer 8 AI and A8 versions. The 8 AI boasts a Lunar Lake processor and a larger 8-inch screen, while the A8 utilizes AMD Ryzen Z2 processors, mirroring those found in other popular handhelds.

While resourceful gamers have already been experimenting with enabling the FSE on non-Asus devices, this official rollout to MSI represents a significant step forward. It’s a surprising development given the close partnership between Microsoft and Asus during the Ally’s launch.

Speculation suggests Asus may have secured a period of exclusivity for the interface as part of their Xbox deal, potentially lasting through 2025. The Windows Insider Program could be a strategic workaround, allowing Microsoft to gather crucial testing data before a wider release.

Microsoft confirms that other manufacturers will gain access to the Fullscreen Experience in the coming months. However, expect a phased rollout, requiring collaboration and integration with each original equipment manufacturer (OEM).

Despite the potential for a gradual implementation, the path to enabling FSE on more handhelds appears manageable, even with some manual adjustments. The future of portable PC gaming on Windows is rapidly evolving, and Microsoft is clearly taking the lead.
