VOTING UNDER SIEGE: NJ Polling Places SHUT DOWN Amidst Bomb Scare – Trump Reacts!

VOTING UNDER SIEGE: NJ Polling Places SHUT DOWN Amidst Bomb Scare – Trump Reacts!

A shadow fell over New Jersey’s closely contested gubernatorial election as reports of bomb threats began to surface, disrupting the democratic process at multiple polling locations.

The threats, delivered via email, targeted seven counties – Bergen, Essex, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, and Passaic – casting a pall of anxiety over voters already engaged in a tight race between Democrat Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli.

Authorities swiftly responded, initiating closures and relocations at affected sites. In Paterson, polling places at School 2 and School 10 were shuttered after receiving threats, while Newark officials investigated suspicious phishing emails, ultimately deeming a threat on Gotthard Street unfounded.

A K9 unit sweep cleared a Hackensack high school after a reported safety threat, allowing polls to reopen, but the disruption was a stark reminder of the vulnerability of the electoral process. Ridgewood took a more drastic step, closing all public schools after a threat at Somerville Elementary, though buildings remained open for voting.

Middlesex County officials closed Avanel Middle School, redirecting voters to Woodbine Avenue Elementary School amidst an “active law enforcement investigation.” The coordinated nature of these incidents raised immediate concerns about deliberate interference.

New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin issued a firm statement, assuring voters of the state’s commitment to a free, fair, and secure election. He vowed swift accountability for anyone attempting to intimidate or disrupt the process.

Federal authorities also weighed in, with Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba pledging to ensure the safety of voters and monitor the situation alongside state and local law enforcement. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon echoed these concerns, describing the threats as “deeply concerning.”

The timing of these threats is particularly noteworthy, arriving as polls indicate a slight lead for Sherrill. Ciattarelli’s campaign was banking on a strong Republican turnout to overcome an early advantage held by Democrats in early voting.

Whether intentional or not, the disruptions created by these threats could significantly hinder Ciattarelli’s chances of closing the gap and achieving an upset victory, adding another layer of complexity to an already tense election.

The incidents serve as a chilling reminder of the fragility of democratic institutions and the lengths to which some might go to undermine the fundamental right to vote.
