UWAN'S FURY UNLEASHED: DEADLY STORM STILL THREATENS!

UWAN'S FURY UNLEASHED: DEADLY STORM STILL THREATENS!

The relentless fury of Typhoon Fung-wong, known locally as Uwan, is beginning to subside as it moves away from the Philippines, but the danger is far from over.

After making multiple landfalls across Luzon, the storm has weakened from its peak as a Super Typhoon, though it still carries the potential for devastation.

Current reports indicate maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching a staggering 160 kph. The storm was last pinpointed 135 kilometers west-northwest of Bacnotan, La Union, steadily moving westward.

While Fung-wong is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility tonight or early Tuesday, a concerning possibility exists for it to re-enter by Wednesday evening as it shifts towards Taiwan.

Areas in Ilocos Sur, the northern and central parts of La Union, and the northwestern section of Pangasinan remain under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3, signifying moderate to significant, life-threatening winds.

Signal No. 2, indicating winds that could cause minor to moderate damage, is in effect across a broad swath of northern Luzon, extending to provinces like Batanes, Cagayan, and Isabela, and reaching as far south as Bulacan.

A wider area, including Metro Manila, Cavite, and parts of Mindoro and Palawan, is under Signal No. 1, where minimal to minor wind damage is possible, but vigilance remains crucial.

The threat extends beyond wind; PAGASA has issued a heavy rainfall warning for nearly all of Luzon, predicting up to 200 millimeters of rain in regions from Batanes to Ilocos Norte.

This intense rainfall raises the specter of widespread flooding, particularly in urban centers and low-lying areas, demanding immediate preparedness and caution from residents.

Even as the storm pulls away, the lingering effects of torrential rain and powerful winds will continue to pose a significant risk to communities across the Philippines.
