A devastating explosion ripped through Delhi on Monday evening, claiming at least ten lives near the historic Red Fort and a bustling metro station. The blast, a rare occurrence in the heavily guarded capital, sent shockwaves through the city of over 30 million people.
The explosion occurred at 6:42 p.m. local time, as a vehicle slowed to a stop at a red light. According to police, the vehicle itself became the epicenter of the blast, impacting not only its occupants but also those in surrounding cars and autorickshaws.
Initial reports indicate that at least six vehicles and three autorickshaws were engulfed in flames. Witnesses described a “big sound” that rattled windows, and a “loud explosion” that illuminated the night sky with towering orange flames.
