Hannah Dugan, a Milwaukee County Circuit Judge, was indicted earlier this year after allegedly assisting an undocumented immigrant with a significant criminal history avoid federal authorities.
The case centered on Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, a 31-year-old with a troubling record. He faced charges, including domestic abuse and strangulation, and was the target of an ICE arrest warrant. When agents arrived at the courthouse, prepared to take him into custody, the situation took an unexpected turn.
Instead of allowing ICE to proceed, Judge Dugan reportedly directed Flores-Ruiz to leave the courthouse through a private exit, effectively helping him evade capture. Witnesses claim she confronted the immigration officers with anger before facilitating his escape.
The Department of Homeland Security announced a decisive outcome on Friday: Eduardo Flores-Ruiz has been deported. Despite the judge’s intervention, federal law enforcement ultimately succeeded in removing him from the country.
Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Homeland Security Secretary, sharply criticized Dugan’s actions, emphasizing the severity of Flores-Ruiz’s crimes.
