TEEN DEAD, RISING STAR QUESTIONED: The Dark Secret Shaking Music

TEEN DEAD, RISING STAR QUESTIONED: The Dark Secret Shaking Music

The music world, and beyond, was shaken by a chilling discovery in September: human remains found in the trunk of a car registered to rising star D4vd. The grim find ignited a firestorm of questions and thrust the 20-year-old singer into the center of a harrowing investigation.

Los Angeles police responded to reports of a disturbing odor emanating from a vehicle at an impound lot. What they uncovered was a tragedy – the remains of a young girl. Initial investigations revealed the victim was between 14 and 15 years old, and authorities immediately stated D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, was cooperating with the investigation.

The identity of the victim was later confirmed as Celeste Rivas, a 15-year-old from Lake Elsinore, California. A distinctive tattoo on her finger – the word “Shhh…” – aided in the identification process. Rivas had been missing since April 2024, her disappearance initially reported by Riverside County authorities.

D4vd performs during the 2025 Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival Weekend 2 - Day 1 on April 18, 2025 in Indio, California.

Details surrounding Celeste’s disappearance began to surface. She was described as 5’2” and 120 pounds, last seen wearing a tube top, black leggings, and a yellow bracelet. Her mother revealed Celeste had a boyfriend named Dave prior to her vanishing, a detail that would later become significant.

D4vd’s own ascent to fame is a story of the digital age. He began creating music not out of ambition, but necessity. His original songs were born from a desire to avoid copyright strikes on his Fortnite video montages. Encouraged by his mother, he found a creative outlet that would unexpectedly launch his career.

In 2022, his tracks “Romantic Homicide” and “Here with Me” exploded on TikTok, amassing over a billion streams each on Spotify. This viral success led to a record deal with Darkroom and Interscope, the same label that propelled Billie Eilish to stardom. He quickly established himself as a unique voice in the indie-pop and R&B landscape.

His music resonated with a massive audience, earning him 34.6 million monthly listeners on Spotify and nearly 4 million followers on TikTok. His song “Locked & Loaded” even became the official anthem for Fortnite, solidifying his place in contemporary pop culture. He was a testament to how quickly a star can rise in the digital world.

However, the narrative took a dark turn. Nearly two months after Celeste Rivas’ body was discovered, reports emerged that D4vd was now considered a suspect in her death. Authorities are investigating a trip he allegedly took in the spring to a remote area of Santa Barbara County, lasting several hours.

Sources within the LAPD suggest Celeste likely died in the spring, and that D4vd may have had assistance in dismembering and disposing of her body. These claims contradict earlier statements regarding his cooperation with the investigation. The case is currently being treated as a possible homicide, pending the official cause of death from the medical examiner.

Officers responded to the 1000 block of N. Mansfield Avenue shortly before 12:30 p.m. Monday to a report of a foul odor coming from an impounded vehicle, according to LAPD. Police say the impounded car had been at the property for a couple of days, and that the body had been placed inside a bag. There's no immediate information about the identity of the person found inside the Tesla. D4vd is scheduled to perform in Minneapolis on Tuesday as part of his "Withered" world tour that began last month. The tour stops in Los Angeles on Sept. 20. Authorities say the human remains were found in the front trunk of the Tesla. Eyewitness News has learned that the 2023 Tesla is registered in Hempstead, Texas to D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke. Video from AIR7 showed police yellow tape encircling the Tesla, along with several parked vehicles, in the impound lot with a white canopy set up nearby. Eyewitness News has reached out to D4vd's representatives and are still waiting for a response. The 20-year-old musician is known for the songs "Here with Me" and "Romantic Homicide." He released his debut album earlier this year.

The fallout was swift. D4vd was removed from festival lineups, and his world tour was cancelled. The once-rising star now faces a cloud of suspicion and a deeply troubling investigation, leaving the music world and those following the case with unanswered questions and a profound sense of sadness.
