A quiet Markham neighbourhood was shattered in May when a home invasion unfolded just before dawn. York Regional Police responded to a frantic call near Laureleaf Rd. and Bayview Ave., arriving to find a residence already breached, but the suspects vanished.
The investigation swiftly led to the arrest of Jordan White-Djulus, 20, of Toronto, who now faces charges of robbery with a weapon and disguise with intent. Disturbingly, White-Djulus was already under court-ordered conditions at the time of the incident, adding another layer to the case.
Police are now urgently seeking the public’s help to identify two additional suspects who fled with White-Djulus. Both are described as Black men in their early 20s, of slim build, and were clad in black tracksuits, masks, and surgical gloves – one wearing black shoes, the other black and white shoes and carrying a backpack.
Meanwhile, in Oshawa, a disturbing double stabbing left two youths injured on Thursday afternoon. The incident, occurring near Harmony Rd. N. and Coldstream Dr., prompted a significant police presence and a hold and secure at Maxwell Heights Senior Secondary as investigators searched for those responsible.
One of the victims was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious, though not life-threatening, injuries. Authorities believe this was an isolated event, but the search for the attackers continues, with no arrests made as of Thursday evening.
Vaughan residents are being warned about a pair of cunning thieves targeting the elderly. A vigilant citizen’s quick thinking prevented a jewelry distraction theft near Major Mackenzie Dr. and Islington Ave., leading to the arrest of Roxana Vasile, 31, and Daruinta Strirbu, both from Toronto.
The women are accused of attempting to steal jewelry from an elderly neighbour, using a distraction technique. Police believe they may have struck elsewhere in the same area and are releasing photos of the suspects to identify potential additional victims.
Toronto Police are investigating a series of street robberies in the Malvern area, specifically targeting women walking alone. Over a two-week period in November, a suspect repeatedly approached victims from behind, snatching their phones and purses.
Fortunately, none of the victims sustained injuries. The suspect is described as a Black man, between 20 and 30 years old, typically wearing a black coat. Police are urging residents in the Morningside Ave.-Finch Ave. E. and Neilson Rd./Finch Ave. E. area to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings.
