NIGERIA NIGHTMARE: 52 CHILDREN SNATCHED!

A wave of terror descended upon a Catholic school in Nigeria early Friday, as gunmen stormed St. Mary’s School and abducted dozens of students and staff. The brazen attack, unfolding in the Papiri community of Agwara local government, represents the latest chilling escalation in a pattern of violence targeting Christian institutions within the nation.

Initial reports indicate that 52 children are among those missing, snatched from their classrooms and the safety of their school. Despite prior warnings from security intelligence regarding heightened threats, St. Mary’s School controversially reopened its doors, a decision officials now lament as a critical error that exposed vulnerable students and staff to unimaginable risk.

The attack is tragically reminiscent of a similar incident earlier this week in Kebbi State, where 25 girls were kidnapped from a boarding school, and at least one staff member was killed. The search for those girls remains ongoing, a stark reminder of the pervasive insecurity gripping the region.

The violence extends beyond schools, reaching into places of worship. Just days before, armed assailants attacked the Christ Apostolic Church, leaving at least two dead and abducting the pastor along with 38 worshippers. A harrowing video surfaced, showing the gunmen systematically looting belongings amidst the sound of gunfire.

The captors have reportedly demanded a staggering ransom of 100 million naira – approximately $69,000 – for each individual held hostage. This exorbitant demand underscores the calculated brutality and financial motivations driving these attacks.

The escalating violence against Christians in Nigeria has drawn international attention, prompting concerns about religious persecution. The situation has been described by some as “genocide wearing the mask of chaos,” a deliberate attempt to erase a faith community through systematic violence and intimidation.

Entire communities now live in constant fear, their lives irrevocably altered by the threat of abduction and violence. Families are being torn apart, and the simple act of worship has become a dangerous undertaking, shadowed by the specter of attack.

While the Nigerian government disputes claims of widespread persecution, the relentless attacks paint a grim picture of a nation struggling to protect its Christian population. The unfolding crisis demands urgent attention and a concerted effort to address the root causes of this escalating violence.
