CHRISTIANITY TODAY BETRAYS ITS ROOTS!

CHRISTIANITY TODAY BETRAYS ITS ROOTS!

Nicole Martin has ascended to the presidency and CEO position of Christianity Today, a pivotal voice within American Evangelicalism. Her academic background includes a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry from Gordon-Conwell, where she also lectured on ministry leadership.

Prior to this appointment, Martin held significant leadership roles at the American Bible Society, including Senior Vice President and Executive Director of Trauma Healing. She spearheaded the creation of the Trauma Healing Institute, a program that later required course correction from subsequent leadership to refocus on the organization’s core mission of biblical literacy.

The selection process for this influential role spanned five months and considered 130 global candidates. Martin has publicly stated her intention to broaden the scope of Christianity Today, aiming to unify the church across ideological divides and highlight diverse expressions of faith.

Christianity Today chose Nicole Massie Martin as the next President and CEO of the Christian publication.

However, her appointment has sparked concern among some conservative voices within the Christian community. They fear a continuation of what they perceive as a leftward shift in Christianity Today’s editorial stance on cultural and political issues.

A 2023 article penned by Martin for Christianity Today has drawn particular scrutiny. In it, she recounted a deeply personal experience: being pulled over by a white police officer for a traffic violation.

Martin vividly described the immediate physical reaction – trembling hands, quickened breath, shaking legs – and the surge of fear that gripped her. She instinctively contacted her husband, overwhelmed by the unfolding situation.

The incident triggered a cascade of harrowing images, recalling the tragic deaths of Black individuals during encounters with law enforcement. She questioned whether she would become another statistic, or be among the fortunate who escaped unharmed.

Despite receiving only a citation, Martin was overcome with grief, weeping for those who had lost their lives in similar circumstances. She specifically named Manuel Ellis, Philando Castile, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Alton Sterling, among others.

This deeply personal account, now resurfaced, has fueled the debate surrounding Martin’s leadership and the future direction of Christianity Today, raising questions about its commitment to traditional evangelical values.
