A wave of enforcement swept through Florida’s gaming landscape this November, as authorities targeted illicit gambling operations. Police actions resulted in the seizure of numerous illegal slot machines and coin pusher devices, alongside substantial sums of cash – a clear signal that the crackdown is intensifying.
The first target was an establishment on South Nova Road, where eight slot machines and a coin pusher were confiscated, accompanied by over $3,500 in cash. Simultaneously, another location known as The Dog House, also on South Nova Road, faced similar consequences: eight slot machines, one coin pusher, and $6,000 were seized.
The Port Hole, located on Herbert Street, became the third focal point of the operation. Law enforcement removed six illegal slot machines and collected $15,500 in cash. Each of these locations received a notice to appear, citing violations related to operating a gambling house and possessing illegal slot machines.
Alana Zimmer, Executive Director of the Florida Gaming Control Commission, emphasized the collaborative effort driving this initiative. The Commission is actively partnering with other law enforcement agencies to dismantle illegal gambling networks throughout the state.
This recent surge in activity builds upon a sustained crackdown throughout the latter half of 2025, particularly concentrated in Fort Myers and Lee County. Authorities have demonstrated a focused approach on machine gaming, aiming to dismantle these operations systematically.
In September, a coordinated operation with the St. Petersburg Police Department led to the shutdown of two illegal arcades. The first raid yielded thirty illegal slot machines and gambling video game tables, along with $15,654 in cash.
The second arcade surrendered twenty-nine illegal slot machines, one video gambling table, and $4,266 in cash. These successful operations underscore the Commission’s dedication to protecting the integrity of the regulated gaming industry and safeguarding Florida communities.
L. Carl Herold, Director of Gaming Enforcement, stated that these coordinated efforts demonstrate a firm commitment to eliminating illegal gambling enterprises. The goal is to prevent these operations from undermining legitimate businesses and negatively impacting the state’s economic well-being.
