The finalization of this joint venture, anticipated before the year’s end, represents a pivotal moment for both companies. Raslag President Robert Gerard B. Nepomuceno confirmed the imminent closure, signaling a new chapter in the nation’s energy future.
Regulators determined the acquisition wouldn’t stifle competition, noting a robust market with numerous players and a fragmented supply chain. This clearance paved the way for a partnership built on expansion and diversification.
The structure of the joint venture will see Raslag holding a 60% stake, with Verdant claiming the remaining 40% of PHESI. This acquisition grants them control of Philippine Hybrid Energy Systems, Inc., a key developer of wind energy projects.
Currently, Philippine Hybrid Energy Systems manages the 16-megawatt Puerto Galera Wind Power Project, a cornerstone of renewable energy generation in the region. They also operate a 7.3-megawatt battery energy storage system, crucial for stabilizing the grid with intermittent wind power.
Future growth is already on the horizon. Plans are being explored to add another 10 megawatts of storage capacity, particularly now that Mindanao is connected to the Luzon grid, opening up new possibilities for energy distribution.
This deal marks Verdant’s exciting debut into the Philippine renewable energy sector, bringing fresh investment and expertise to the table. For Raslag, it’s a strategic move to broaden their portfolio beyond their established solar energy focus.
