A shadow of doubt hung over Bournemouth’s attack last weekend as Antoine Semenyo watched from the sidelines, sidelined by a nagging ankle injury during their match against West Ham.
The young forward has been a vital spark for the Cherries this season, finding the back of the net six times in the Premier League and quickly becoming a fan favorite.
However, there’s growing optimism surrounding his return. Manager Andoni Iraola indicated Semenyo has been participating in modified training sessions with the team, a promising sign for his availability in upcoming fixtures.
Iraola cautiously stated that if Semenyo continues to progress positively through today’s training, he anticipates the player will be ready to rejoin the squad.
The news isn’t all positive for Bournemouth, however. A more serious injury has befallen Ryan Christie, who suffered a knee injury while on international duty.
Christie initially played through the pain during his national team’s match against Greece, and attempted to push through discomfort again in Bournemouth’s game against West Ham.
A subsequent MRI revealed a significant knee sprain, forcing the club to prepare for a prolonged absence for the midfielder. Iraola confirmed Christie will be sidelined “for some time.”
The injury to Christie mirrors a similar situation with young Ben Gannon-Doak, who also sustained an injury during the same international match against Greece, adding to the team’s growing injury concerns.
