Former President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, employing deeply offensive language and leveling accusations of failed leadership regarding crime and immigration within the state.
In a lengthy statement, Trump asserted a direct link between immigration and a nationwide surge in criminal activity, placing a particular focus on Minnesota as a stark example. He claimed that the state, once thriving, is now plagued by “Somalian gangs” operating with impunity.
The statement began with a pointed Thanksgiving greeting, criticizing what Trump characterized as a national willingness to accept division and disruption in the name of “political correctness.” He argued this approach has left the country vulnerable to a host of problems.
Trump further contended that the nation’s foreign-born population, numbering 53 million, disproportionately relies on public assistance and originates from unstable backgrounds. He alleged that many arrive from “failed nations, prisons, mental institutions, gangs, or drug cartels.”
He specifically claimed that migrants with green cards earning $30,000 annually receive approximately $50,000 in government benefits for their families, framing this as an unsustainable burden on American taxpayers. Trump labeled this situation the primary driver of “social dysfunction” across the country.
Returning to Minnesota, Trump alleged that “hundreds of thousands of refugees from Somalia” are effectively taking control of the state, while Governor Walz remains inactive. He described a climate of fear, with residents “locked in their apartments” fearing attacks.
Trump’s language toward Governor Walz was particularly harsh, labeling him “seriously r------d” and suggesting his inaction stems from either fear or incompetence. The former president offered no evidence to support these claims.
Governor Walz responded to a screenshot of the post on social media with a terse request for the former president’s MRI results, a pointed jab at Trump’s mental acuity.
The statement also included a vitriolic attack on Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar, accusing her of being the “worst congressman/woman” in the country and questioning her origins and loyalty. Trump made unsubstantiated claims about her family and background.
These comments surfaced shortly after a Thanksgiving Eve shooting in Washington, D.C., which left a West Virginia National Guard member dead and another critically injured. The suspect, Rahmahullah Lakanwal, is an Afghan national with a complex history of working with U.S. intelligence agencies.
Lakanwal reportedly assisted a CIA-operated unit fighting the Taliban and was involved in the evacuation of personnel during the fall of Kabul. His background adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing debate surrounding immigration and national security.
The White House, Governor Walz, and Representative Omar did not immediately offer public responses to the former president’s statements.
