TRUMP PARDON MEANS NOTHING! Hatchet Speed's Nightmare Isn't Over!

TRUMP PARDON MEANS NOTHING! Hatchet Speed's Nightmare Isn't Over!

A chilling case is heading to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals on December 12th, one that exposes a disturbing overreach of power and a relentless pursuit of a conviction based on flimsy evidence. This isn’t just about “firearm silencers”; it’s about the erosion of fundamental rights and the targeting of individuals caught in the aftermath of January 6th.

The story centers on Hatchet Speed, a Virginia man facing a protracted legal battle stemming from an FBI raid connected to the Capitol investigation. Unlike many, Speed’s predicament hasn’t been resolved by President Trump’s pardons, leaving him in a legal limbo that feels increasingly unjust. His alleged crime? Possession of items the government insists are illegal firearm silencers.

But these weren’t silencers in any practical sense. They were commercially available solvent traps – devices designed to collect cleaning fluid from firearms, sold legally in gun stores and online. To function as a silencer, they would require significant modification, drilling, and alteration. Yet, the government argues that the *potential* to be converted into something else is enough for a conviction.

The investigation began with a sweeping, and arguably unconstitutional, geofence warrant. This warrant compelled telecom companies to hand over cell phone data for *everyone* near the Capitol on January 6th, effectively turning innocent bystanders into potential suspects. It was a dragnet, violating the Fourth Amendment’s requirement for probable cause.

Following the data collection, an undercover FBI agent infiltrated Speed’s life, posing as a fellow patriot. For months, they built a rapport, sharing meals and exercise, all while secretly recording conversations. These recordings, filled with Speed’s private thoughts and discussions about books he was reading, became the cornerstone of the prosecution’s case.

The government twisted Speed’s remarks, focusing on a statement about potentially converting the solvent traps into silencers “in the event of a future end-times war.” This hypothetical scenario, uttered a year after January 6th, was presented as evidence of criminal intent, while any statements indicating his intention to comply with regulations were dismissed by the court.

Speed endured three trials across two federal courts. The first ended in a hung jury, a clear indication of the weakness of the case. Despite this, the DOJ doubled down, adding additional charges related to obstruction of an official proceeding – charges that were later called into question by a Supreme Court decision.

Ultimately, Speed was convicted and sentenced to seven years in prison. He was released after nearly two years following Trump’s inauguration, but the “silencer” convictions continue to haunt him, hindering his attempts to rebuild his life. He remains in a legal twilight zone, a victim of a prosecution built on speculation and misrepresentation.

What makes Speed’s case particularly egregious is the inconsistency in how the Trump pardon has been applied. The DOJ itself has acknowledged the pardon’s broad scope in similar cases, yet Speed’s situation seems to have been overlooked. His lawyer is now fighting to have his case heard, seeking to correct this injustice.

The upcoming oral arguments represent a critical juncture. This isn’t simply about one man’s freedom; it’s about the dangerous precedent being set – a precedent where potential, hypothetical actions can be criminalized, and where the definition of a “crime” can be stretched to encompass everyday objects. The outcome will resonate far beyond Hatchet Speed’s case, impacting the rights of all Americans.
