ICE Arrested Him...Then They HIRED HIM BACK?! Chicago's Outrage Explodes.

A quiet Chicago suburb is now at the center of a national firestorm. Hanover Park, Illinois, is defending its decision to allow Officer Radule Bojovic to remain on the police force despite his recent arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement for overstaying his visa.

The controversy erupted after ICE officials publicly questioned the department’s judgment. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin sharply criticized the situation, asking how a police department could entrust a badge and firearm to someone actively breaking federal law. She pointedly stated it is a felony for non-citizens to possess a firearm.

Federal authorities estimate Bojovic’s employment has already cost taxpayers over $205,000. He was initially “encountered” during Operation Midway Blitz, a targeted enforcement action in the Chicago area. The core question remains: how could he be employed for years after his tourist visa expired in 2015?

Hanover Park maintains it followed all proper hiring procedures. Officials assert Bojovic was hired in full compliance with the law and possessed a valid, recently renewed Work Authorization Card. This claim directly clashes with ICE’s assertion that he was unlawfully present in the United States for a decade.

Bojovic returned to full duty this week after posting a $2,500 bond, a bond that was not contested by DHS. However, the decision to reinstate him, and reports that he will receive back pay for his time off-duty, has ignited outrage from conservative voices.

The case has drawn national attention, with prominent commentators questioning the logic of employing someone with an uncertain legal status as a law enforcement officer. The situation raises serious questions about vetting processes and the potential risks involved.

This incident isn’t isolated. A similar situation is unfolding in Maine, where ICE alleges an illegal immigrant from Jamaica was serving as a reserve police officer in a “sanctuary jurisdiction” and was arrested for attempting to illegally purchase a firearm.

While Hanover Park officials state Bojovic has no criminal history in Illinois or federal databases, the fundamental issue of his immigration status continues to fuel the debate. The case underscores the complex intersection of local law enforcement, federal immigration policy, and public trust.
