CITY UNDER SIEGE: Violent Attacks & Car Theft Epidemic EXPLODES!

CITY UNDER SIEGE: Violent Attacks & Car Theft Epidemic EXPLODES!

A seemingly random act of violence shook a North York neighborhood last week, leaving one person injured and a 33-year-old man facing assault charges. The incident unfolded on Yonge Street near Empress Avenue, just north of Sheppard Avenue West, around 5:50 p.m. on November 26th.

Police report that the victim was simply walking when they were approached from behind and attacked by a complete stranger. Details regarding the victim’s identity and the nature of the assault remained scarce, but authorities confirmed the injuries were not life-threatening. The victim received medical attention at a local hospital.

Investigators quickly launched a search, releasing a photograph of the suspect to the public. Two days later, Cassim Cummings, a Toronto resident, was taken into custody and charged with assault causing bodily harm. The motive behind the attack remains unknown.

Cassim Cummings, 33, of Toronto, is accused in an alleged assault in North York on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025.

Early Wednesday morning, a different kind of danger unfolded in Rexdale. Police responded to a call about a person with a gun in the area of John Garland Boulevard and Martin Grove Road, south of Finch Avenue West.

A home had been entered, and thieves made off with two sets of car keys, quickly escaping in the stolen vehicles. One of the vehicles was soon located near Highway 401 and Weston Road, where it collided with a police cruiser during the pursuit.

The collision led to the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of a firearm. Shortly after, officers located the second stolen vehicle and apprehended another individual. Both suspects sustained minor injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment. A third suspect, described as a Black male dressed in all black, remains at large, having fled the scene in a light-colored vehicle.

Four people face charges after cops seized suspected cocaine, oxycodone, a prohibited firearm and ammunition, items associated with drug trafficking and $250 in cash while executing search warrants in Quinte West on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025.

Meanwhile, in Quinte West, a months-long investigation into drug trafficking culminated in a series of raids and arrests. The Ontario Provincial Police’s East Region Community Street Crime Unit initiated the probe in October, focusing on illicit drug activity within the community.

On Tuesday, officers, with assistance from the Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit, executed search warrants at residences on Catherine Street and Telephone Road. The search yielded a significant haul: nearly 90 grams of suspected cocaine, oxycodone, a prohibited firearm with ammunition, and $250 in cash.

Four Quinte West residents now face a range of charges. Joseph Cassibo, 30, is charged with drug trafficking and possession of proceeds from crime. Ashley Austin, 27, faces similar charges, along with a violation of a release order. Patricia Arnold, 39, is accused of possessing a prohibited firearm, and Steven Auger, 39, is charged with drug trafficking and firearm offenses.

Cassibo remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing, while Austin, Arnold, and Auger have been released with conditions and are scheduled to appear in court in January of 2026. These separate incidents paint a stark picture of criminal activity across the region, highlighting the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to maintain public safety.
