A new haven has opened in Quezon City, Philippines, where the comforting ritual of tea is shared not just among friends, but between people and their beloved pets. Chagee, known for its premium tea experience, has unveiled its first-ever pet-friendly store – a Southeast Asian first – redefining community spaces with inclusivity at its heart.
The concept blossomed from a simple observation: the growing number of Filipinos embracing pet ownership. Chagee’s mission to “craft moments of connection” naturally expanded to include furry companions, creating a welcoming environment for both humans and animals.
Stepping into the store is an experience in itself. A playful giant cat sculpture greets visitors from the rooftop, while a dog sculpture stands guard over the al fresco dining area. Every detail prioritizes safety and comfort, from non-slip flooring and strategically placed air purifiers to specially designed water bowls for thirsty paws.
Hygiene is paramount. An enclosed tea bar, shielded by glass panels, protects drinks from stray fur and dander, ensuring the integrity of every cup. A dedicated cleaning station, complete with wipes, lint rollers, and disposal bags, empowers guests to maintain a clean and enjoyable experience.
For feline visitors, a dedicated playpen offers a miniature world of exploration. Complete with a cozy house, tiered ledges, and scratching posts, it’s a space for cats to play, relax, and even pose for photos. The location in Eastwood was deliberately chosen for its accessibility and existing pet-friendly community.
Beyond the design, Chagee’s commitment extends to animal welfare. Partnering with Pawssion Project, a nonprofit dedicated to rescuing and rehoming stray animals, the store will donate proceeds from pet merchandise during its opening weekend. This collaboration aims to raise awareness and support for animals in need.
Malou Perez, founder of Pawssion Project, emphasized the power of inclusive spaces to shift perspectives. “Seeing all of these things could change the perspective of people and make them understand that we can actually coexist with animals,” she explained, advocating for compassion over outdated solutions.
However, Ms. Perez also stressed the crucial role of responsible pet ownership. The success of pet-friendly spaces hinges on owners upholding standards of cleanliness and consideration, preventing the negative experiences that can lead to restrictions.
Chagee plans to showcase Pawssion Project’s rescue animals within the store, encouraging adoption and highlighting the plight of strays. The grand opening, from December 5th to 7th, will feature photo opportunities, a “paw-shion” show, and prizes for participants, all while requiring proof of updated vaccinations for participating pets.
Special promotions, including a “Tear and Win” contest with prizes like designer dog accessories and spa sessions, will add to the celebratory atmosphere. Chagee’s focus remains on fostering genuine connection within the communities it serves, and for now, that means nurturing the success of this unique, pet-inclusive space.
While future expansion remains open to possibility, Chagee is dedicated to solidifying its presence in Eastwood, building a lasting legacy of kindness and connection for both people and their cherished animal companions.
