BEN&BEN & MAKI: ILOCOS NORTH WILL EXPLODE!

The legendary Paoay Sand Dunes in Ilocos Norte are preparing for a vibrant resurgence as the 12th Himala sa Buhangin Festival approaches on December 5th and 6th. This unique event, celebrated as the nation’s only festival held amongst sand dunes, promises a captivating blend of music, art, and cultural immersion.

Headlining the festival is the critically acclaimed band Ben&Ben, renowned for their emotionally resonant lyrics and innovative musical style. Their performance will ignite the dunes on the opening night, drawing crowds into a world of sound and feeling.

The energy continues on the second day with the rising star Maki, alongside the dynamic rapper Hev Abi. Together, they’ll deliver a high-octane performance, perfectly complementing the dramatic landscape.

The musical tapestry extends beyond these headliners, featuring established acts like Indio I and Brownman Revival. Local Ilokano talent will also shine, with performances from Lvndrs, Magrus, Vintage Core, and Tape Monkeys, showcasing the region’s thriving music scene.

As darkness descends, the festival transforms into a nocturnal playground with DJ sets from Gunna Lex, Nasty, Eric Manalo, and MC Travis. Their beats will pulse through the dunes, keeping the celebration alive until the first light of dawn.

Himala sa Buhangin isn’t solely about music; it’s a celebration of Ilokano artistry. Immersive installations, crafted from bamboo and inspired by local life, will dot the landscape. These structures, evoking garlic and the sea, honor the province’s rich coastal heritage.

Festival attendees can anticipate a diverse range of activities, from exhilarating obstacle courses and 4x4 adventures to captivating cultural dance performances and mesmerizing fire and belly dancing shows. There’s something to ignite every passion.

The festival culminates with a poignant sunset screening of the film *The Fisher* on the final day. This reflective moment offers a beautiful contrast to the high energy of the previous events, grounding the experience in the area’s history and spirit.

Originally envisioned by former Governor Imee Marcos to elevate the Paoay Sand Dunes as a cultural and tourism destination, Himala sa Buhangin has blossomed into a major regional attraction. The dunes, famously featured in films like *Himala* and *Ang Panday*, provide an unforgettable stage.

Following a remarkable turnout of over 50,000 attendees in 2024, organizers are anticipating an even larger crowd this year. The festival promises to be a spectacular convergence of heritage, creativity, and modern entertainment, etched against the breathtaking backdrop of the Paoay Sand Dunes.
