HERO DOG DOWN: Peel Police Mourn K9 Legend Qaybre!

A shadow has fallen over the Peel Regional Police and the communities they protect. Qaybre, known affectionately as “Q,” a retired Police Services Dog, has passed away at the age of 13, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering service and a profound sense of loss.

For nearly nine years, Q served alongside his dedicated partner, Sergeant Jennifer Dagg, as K9-3. Their bond wasn’t simply professional; it was a partnership built on trust, loyalty, and a shared commitment to keeping the region safe.

Q’s career was marked by tireless dedication. He responded to thousands of calls, from the chaos of break-ins and robberies to the desperate searches for missing persons. His keen senses and relentless drive directly contributed to hundreds of arrests, bringing criminals to justice.

Beyond apprehension, Q possessed an exceptional ability to locate crucial evidence, evidence that solidified convictions and brought closure to victims. He wasn’t just a tool; he was a vital component of countless investigations.

One final, poignant call stands out. Shortly before his well-deserved retirement, Q tirelessly tracked a missing elderly man. His persistence paid off, leading officers to the man and ultimately saving his life – a powerful testament to Q’s unwavering commitment.

Retirement in July 2021 brought Q the simple joys he deserved: splashing in the water, chasing a favorite ball, and indulging in the occasional, well-earned steak dinner. He spent his days surrounded by the love of Sergeant Dagg and her family.

Though his retirement was tragically brief, Qaybre’s impact will endure. Peel Regional Police remember him not just as a canine officer, but as a protector, a partner, and a friend. His exemplary service and dedication will be remembered with deep respect and heartfelt gratitude.

The region mourns the loss of a true hero. Rest easy, Q.
