DEMOCRAT REP. BUSTED: Federal Fraud SHOCKWAVE Rocks Georgia!

DEMOCRAT REP. BUSTED: Federal Fraud SHOCKWAVE Rocks Georgia!

A Georgia state legislator, Sharon Henderson, faces serious accusations following her arrest Monday morning. The charges center around alleged fraud related to federal pandemic unemployment benefits, a betrayal of public trust that has sparked outrage.

A federal grand jury indicted Henderson on two counts of theft of government funds and ten counts of making false statements. The allegations paint a picture of calculated deception during a time of widespread hardship and economic uncertainty.

The Department of Justice alleges that Henderson applied for benefits in June 2020, falsely claiming continued employment with Henry County Schools. While she had briefly worked as a substitute teacher there in 2018, she hadn’t held a position with the school system for nearly two years.

Adding to the severity of the accusations, Henderson reportedly acknowledged in her application that substitute teachers were ineligible for unemployment. Yet, she allegedly stated she’d worked for the schools throughout 2019 and as recently as March 2020, even claiming to possess supporting paystubs.

The alleged deception didn’t stop there. Even after being sworn in as the state representative for District 113, Henderson purportedly continued to submit weekly certifications stating she was unable to work due to COVID-19 quarantine restrictions. These submissions continued into June 2021.

The total amount of allegedly fraudulently obtained benefits reached $17,811. This sum represents funds intended for individuals genuinely struggling during the pandemic, now claimed to have been diverted through false pretenses.

Federal authorities expressed strong condemnation of the alleged actions. The U.S. Attorney stated it was “shocking” that a public official would allegedly exploit a program designed to help those in need, emphasizing a commitment to holding such individuals accountable.

The FBI echoed this sentiment, highlighting Henderson’s alleged choice of “greed over compassion.” Agents affirmed their dedication to pursuing those who exploit federal programs meant for legitimate assistance.

Investigators from the U.S. Department of Labor and the Georgia State Inspector General’s office underscored the importance of protecting these vital resources. They emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for the theft of funds intended for deserving citizens.

The Georgia State Inspector General made a stark declaration: “Nobody is above the law, especially Georgia’s elected officials.” This indictment serves as a potent message that abuse of public trust will not be tolerated, and those who violate the law will face prosecution.
