A political firestorm erupted after a ’60 Minutes’ interview with Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, triggering a furious response from former President Donald Trump. He demanded an apology from the CBS news program, unleashing a barrage of criticism on Truth Social.
Trump didn’t hold back, labeling Greene a “traitor” after she revealed that other Republicans privately mocked him during his time in office. He claimed her recent shift in political stance stemmed from being “jilted” by him, suggesting a history of similar disappointments for the congresswoman.
The former president’s online rant continued, dismissing Greene’s ideas as “really BAD” and comparing her unfavorably to a “Rotten Apple.” He questioned her commitment to the “America First” and “MAGA” movements, implying her views had changed too drastically and were now indicative of poor judgment.
Greene’s upcoming resignation from Congress in January, following her support for policies diverging from Trump’s agenda – including the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files and extending Affordable Care Act subsidies – appears to be at the heart of the conflict. She had previously blamed Trump’s rhetoric for inciting death threats against her and her family.
During the ’60 Minutes’ interview, Greene described a stark contrast in how Republican colleagues treated Trump before and after his 2024 primary win. She alleged they went from openly ridiculing him to enthusiastically embracing his policies and image for political gain.
Greene also suggested that many GOP members operate in fear of Trump’s public criticism, carefully monitoring their words to avoid becoming the target of a “nasty Truth Social post.” This observation fueled the escalating tension between the two figures.
Trump simultaneously attacked journalist Lesley Stahl, revisiting a past grievance regarding her reporting on Hunter Biden’s laptop. He reiterated his claim that she falsely attributed the laptop’s origins to Russia, a claim he insists has been “TOTALLY PROVEN WRONG.”
He characterized Stahl’s interview with Greene as a showcase of a “very poorly prepared Traitor” making “stupid statements.” Trump’s broader complaint centered on Paramount’s acquisition of CBS, arguing that ’60 Minutes’ had become even more unfavorable under the new ownership.
Trump accused the network of continuing a pattern of “FAKE REPORTING” and demanded an apology, referencing past financial settlements he received from CBS. He insisted that the network, regardless of ownership, remained biased against him.
Responding directly to Trump’s attacks on X, Greene defended her “America First” principles. She highlighted a financial disparity, pointing out that she had received no funding from the American Israeli Political Action Committee, while Trump had reportedly received over $230 million from the organization.
Greene concluded her response with a simple message: “Thank you for your attention to this matter. – MTG,” signaling a clear refusal to back down from the escalating public dispute with the former president.
