A ghost has been apprehended. Gerson Emir Cuadra Soto, known on the streets as “Fantasma,” a suspected MS-13 leader and overseer of a brutal kill squad, was arrested in Nebraska this week. His capture marks a significant blow against the notorious gang and potentially unlocks answers to a chilling series of murders.
Cuadra, 33, was taken into custody in Grand Island on immigration charges, but the FBI believes this is just the beginning. He’s accused of commanding “El Combo,” a specialized MS-13 unit dedicated to carrying out targeted assassinations for the gang’s benefit. In Honduras, he already faces charges in connection with four separate homicides.
The stakes escalated dramatically with the suspicion that Cuadra played a key role in the July 2022 murder of Said Lobo Bonilla, the son of former Honduran President Porfirio Lobo Sosa. Bonilla and three companions were gunned down as they left a Tegucigalpa nightclub, a brazen act that sent shockwaves through the country.
Fearing capture, Cuadra fled Honduras shortly after the quadruple murder. Astonishingly, he and two accomplices were briefly jailed, only to be released after a staggering $125,000 bribe was allegedly paid to corrupt government officials – a testament to the gang’s reach and influence.
Once inside the United States, Cuadra reportedly entered through Texas in November, skillfully evading detection and even obtaining a California driver’s license. This allowed him to blend into the population while continuing to allegedly direct operations from afar.
Intelligence points to a close connection between Cuadra and Yulan Archaga Carias, nicknamed “Porky,” currently listed on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. Carias is considered the top MS-13 leader in Honduras and a key decision-maker within the gang’s inner circle, known as “La Mesa.”
Carias faces serious charges in the United States, including racketeering, conspiracy to import cocaine, and weapons offenses. The FBI’s ongoing investigation into Cuadra aims to build a case that connects him directly to these crimes and exposes the full extent of his leadership role within MS-13.
This arrest is part of a larger, nationwide effort called “Operation Take Back America,” designed to dismantle dangerous drug cartels and transnational criminal organizations. The goal is to protect communities from the escalating violence these groups inflict.
The pursuit of individuals like Cuadra and Carias reflects a broader strategy to combat the growing threat posed by MS-13 and other criminal enterprises operating within U.S. borders, signaling a determined effort to disrupt their activities and bring them to justice.
