NotebookLM, the AI designed to be your personal knowledge assistant, has evolved. The latest enhancement caters directly to visual thinkers, transforming complex information into easily digestible infographics.
Imagine taking dense PDFs, sprawling websites, or lengthy videos and condensing their core ideas into a single, compelling visual. This new feature within NotebookLM makes that a reality, offering a “picture” of your research and learning materials.
Accessing the infographic generator is straightforward. Open any Notebook within NotebookLM – these are your organized collections of uploaded materials – and look to the right-hand panel. It’s the same location where you’ll find tools for creating videos and flashcards.
The process is remarkably simple: select the sources you want to summarize from the left panel, ensure they’re checked, and tap the corresponding button. The AI then works to distill the information into a visually engaging infographic.
Initial experiences varied. One account, labeled “BETA,” struggled to produce a usable infographic after multiple attempts. However, another account, without the beta designation, performed flawlessly, generating a clear and concise visual summary.
The rollout is happening in stages, with full functionality becoming available to different accounts at different times. But when it works, the results are impressive, offering a solid overview of the source material.
While not naturally a visual learner, the infographic feature proved surprisingly effective. Unlike the mind map creator, which felt cluttered and unhelpful, the infographic was concise, engaging, and held attention.
It’s unlikely to become a primary study tool, but the potential for visual learners is undeniable. For those who benefit from seeing information laid out in a graphical format, this new feature could be a game-changer, offering clarity where traditional methods fall short.
The beauty lies in its simplicity and directness. It bypasses the complexity of mind maps, offering a streamlined visual representation that’s both informative and easy to absorb.
