A new kind of festive experience has arrived in the heart of Quezon City: the inaugural Christmas edition of the Modern and Contemporary Art Festival (MoCAF). This isn’t just an art show; it’s a carefully curated immersion into the vibrant world of contemporary art, designed to capture the spirit of the holidays.
From December 3rd to the 14th, Opus Mall in Bridgetowne transforms into a haven for art enthusiasts. Four galleries and four distinct special exhibitions await, offering a unique blend of artistic expression and holiday cheer. The festival promises a more intimate and relaxed atmosphere than its larger annual counterpart.
MoCAF’s festival director, Coleen Wong, described this edition as “festive, relaxed, and community-centered.” It’s a deliberate shift in scale, a 12-day celebration open to all, perfectly timed to coincide with the bustling energy of the holiday season.
The mall’s central atrium is the focal point, showcasing a diverse collection of local galleries. Alongside these established spaces, special exhibitions feature the compelling work of RAKI and the artistic duo, Yok and Jek Joaquin.
A dedicated area highlights “MoCAF Discoveries,” a platform dedicated to nurturing emerging talent. This year’s showcase is particularly poignant, bringing together artists from the program’s earliest participants to its newest cohort, revealing their remarkable growth and artistic evolution.
Venture to the third floor and you’ll encounter “Street Dreams: The Art of Pop Surrealism,” a captivating exploration of this unique genre through the works of select MoCAF artists. The exhibition promises a journey into imaginative and thought-provoking visual landscapes.
The fourth floor offers a hands-on experience, dedicated to artisans and creative workshops. Visitors can participate in sessions hosted by The Matcha Tokyo, or learn the art of terrarium-making with Moss Escape, adding a personal touch to the festive experience.
MoCAF: The Christmas Edit! is more than just an event; it’s an invitation to discover, create, and celebrate the power of art during the most wonderful time of the year. It’s a chance to experience contemporary art in a new light, within the welcoming walls of Opus Mall.
