A woman, now wanted on a staggering number of charges, allegedly posed as a licensed massage therapist, quietly building a false career and exploiting the vulnerability of her clients.
The investigation began in July, sparked by concerns from two separate businesses located in the bustling downtown core – one near Church and Wellesley, the other close to Yonge and Hayden. Authorities began to unravel a complex scheme that stretched from January to May, revealing a pattern of fraudulent activity.
Police allege the woman provided massage therapy services, accepting payment directly from clients in cash or through insurance claims. Simultaneously, she was reportedly receiving regular wages from both establishments, all while falsely representing herself as a registered practitioner in Ontario.
The suspect, identified as Sikatema Lishomwa, now faces a formidable list of accusations. Seventeen counts of identity theft are among them, alongside charges related to forged documents and passports, and multiple counts of fraud exceeding $5,000.
The alleged offenses extend beyond financial crimes, including a single charge of assault and accusations of possessing the proceeds of criminal activity. The sheer volume of charges – totaling over 50 – paints a picture of a deliberate and extensive operation.
Lishomwa is described as a striking figure, standing six feet tall with a slim build, black hair, and brown eyes. Investigators have released her photograph, hoping the public can assist in her apprehension.
