A visible bend now mars Jake Paul’s nose, a stark reminder of the brutal preparation for his upcoming fight against Anthony Joshua. Just over a week remains until he steps into the ring with the two-time heavyweight champion, a contest widely considered a massive mismatch.
Paul initially targeted a bout with Gervonta Davis, a significantly smaller opponent, before shifting his focus to heavyweight contenders. He actively sought out giants for sparring, transforming his training camp into a crucible of power and size.
Lawrence Okolie, a former Joshua protégé, and rising star Jared Anderson joined Paul in Puerto Rico. Title contender Frank Sanchez also participated, leaving a lasting impression – and a crooked nose – after a particularly intense session.
Appearing on a recent show, Paul didn’t deny the damage. He admitted his nose had shifted “a couple of millimetres” during camp, directly attributing the bend to a solid blow from Frank Sanchez. “It’s bad,” he conceded, acknowledging the impact.
This isn’t the first visible mark from sparring. Last week, Paul displayed a prominent black eye, the result of a clash with the towering Okolie. He’s been openly sharing images of these training sessions with the heavyweight fighters.
However, not everyone is convinced the sparring is as rigorous as it appears. Former world champion Carl Froch has publicly questioned the intensity, suggesting the heavyweights might be holding back, offering only light work.
Froch has demanded the release of full sparring footage, skeptical that genuine, full-force exchanges are taking place. He believes Paul isn’t at a level to truly spar with these seasoned professionals, and wants proof of legitimate training.
Despite his doubts, Froch has already booked flights, anticipating the fight will proceed. The question remains: is Paul truly prepared for the immense challenge Joshua presents, or is this all part of a carefully constructed narrative?
