DEMOCRAT'S FOX NEWS ATTACK EXPLODES IN HER FACE!

DEMOCRAT'S FOX NEWS ATTACK EXPLODES IN HER FACE!

A tense exchange unfolded during a Senate Commerce Committee hearing, as Senator Jacky Rosen attempted to challenge Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr. What began as a calculated attempt to score political points quickly backfired, leaving the Senator visibly flustered and retreating from the line of questioning.

Carr has been actively reasserting the FCC’s authority over traditional broadcast media – networks like ABC, CBS, and NBC – focusing on accountability under existing regulations. This includes revisiting complaints regarding election-related coverage, including a notable segment from 60 Minutes featuring Kamala Harris, and scrutinizing diversity, equity, and inclusion policies at companies like Comcast/NBCUniversal.

Rosen’s attempt centered around a claim of deceptive editing involving Fox News, demanding a simple “yes” or “no” answer regarding an investigation. Carr’s immediate and firm “no” response set the stage for a rapid unraveling of the Senator’s argument.

Two speakers at a congressional hearing, one woman presenting and a man listening intently, with audience members in the background.

Undeterred, Rosen pressed further, accusing Carr of selectively choosing investigations based on the target. She questioned the rationale behind his decisions, highlighting what she perceived as a double standard regarding editorial content during a presidential campaign.

Carr’s response was precise and legally grounded. He explained that the FCC’s authority is fundamentally tied to broadcast television, which utilizes public airwaves. Cable news, like Fox News, operates on private systems and therefore falls outside the FCC’s regulatory purview.

The core distinction – a long-standing legal principle – appeared to be lost on Rosen, who then attempted to invoke a vague notion of “fairness” as justification for FCC intervention. Carr skillfully challenged this assertion, questioning whether she advocated for a broad fairness standard applicable to all cable companies.

Faced with a direct challenge and lacking a coherent response, Rosen abruptly shifted gears, abandoning the Fox News line of inquiry and pivoting to a different topic – merger threats. The attempted “gotcha” moment had completely dissolved.

The exchange highlighted a critical misunderstanding of the FCC’s legal boundaries and the differing regulations governing broadcast and cable television. Carr’s calm and legally sound dismantling of Rosen’s argument underscored the limitations of the FCC’s authority in the realm of cable news content.
