A search for a missing woman in Toronto ended in tragedy, escalating to the city’s 40th homicide of the year. The investigation began Friday night, responding to a report of a missing person near Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West.
Police discovered the woman’s body inside a residence early Saturday morning, around 6:30 a.m., immediately classifying the death as a homicide. The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Himanshi Khurana, a resident of Toronto.
Authorities are now pursuing Abdul Ghafoori, 32, of Toronto, under a nationwide warrant for first-degree murder. Investigators have confirmed that Ghafoori and Khurana were in a relationship.
In a separate incident, a man is fighting for his life after a brutal assault in the Duncan-Pearl Streets area. The attack occurred early Saturday morning, around 3:30 a.m., after a verbal dispute turned violent.
The victim was initially confronted by one assailant who brandished a knife, attempting to slash him. As the victim tried to escape, he was tackled by a second attacker and repeatedly stabbed by the first.
The assault didn’t end there. A third individual joined the attack, further assaulting the victim before all three suspects fled westbound on Pearl Street. The man was rushed to a hospital with injuries described as life-altering.
Police are seeking three male suspects, all believed to be between 20 and 25 years old. The first is described as 5’8” to 5’10”, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, black puffer jacket, distressed jeans, and grey shoes.
The second suspect is 5’10” to 6’ tall, with black braids, and was last seen in a black hooded sweatshirt with a circular design, blue jeans, and white shoes. The third suspect, also 5’10” to 6’ tall, has a distinctive “broccoli” haircut and wore a black sweatshirt with a gold or yellow emblem, a black zippered jacket, blue pants, white shoes, and a surgical mask.
These two investigations are unfolding as separate, urgent cases, demanding public attention and assistance. The details released paint a grim picture of violence within the city.
