A tense scene unfolded in Toronto’s Jane-Finch neighbourhood Monday afternoon, triggering an investigation by the province’s police watchdog. Officers responded to reports of a person wielding a knife, arriving to find a chaotic situation already underway.
Upon arrival at Jane Street and Shoreham Drive, police discovered two individuals suffering from stab wounds. One victim was immediately transported to a hospital for medical attention, their condition initially unknown.
The situation escalated rapidly when an officer discharged their firearm, striking a male suspect also armed with a weapon. That suspect, too, required hospitalization, adding another layer of urgency to the unfolding events.
Two officers sustained minor injuries during the confrontation, though thankfully, neither required hospital treatment. The Special Investigations Unit has now assumed control of the investigation, meticulously examining the circumstances surrounding the officer’s use of force.
Elsewhere in the city, a brutal attack in North York left one person fighting for their life. Police responded to a medical call Sunday night near De Marco Boulevard and Lawrence Avenue, discovering a victim with critical injuries.
Investigators believe the victim was deliberately targeted while walking along Lawrence Avenue. A dark-coloured sedan pulled up, its hazard lights flashing, and two individuals emerged to confront and assault the victim before fleeing westbound.
Police are actively searching for two white male suspects, described as wearing black baseball hats at the time of the attack. Authorities are appealing to the public for any potential video or dashcam footage from the area between 9:15 p.m. and 10:15 p.m.
In a separate disturbing case, a 66-year-old Scarborough dentist has been charged with sexual assault. The alleged incident occurred during a treatment session on October 18th, with the accused turning himself in to police earlier this month.
Investigators believe there may be additional victims connected to Muthuckumaru Illango, who operated a practice called “Dr. Illango and Associates.” Anyone with relevant information is urged to come forward.
These incidents underscore a period of heightened concern across the city, with police also investigating separate murders in Mississauga and Toronto, highlighting the complex challenges facing law enforcement and the communities they serve.
